Now, Philips has announced that they will no longer be manufacturing VCRs because the demand is no longer there.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s great if all you want to do is watch movies &#8211; but there is still no reliable way of recording shows on TV that you would otherwise miss.  Things like TIVO are still in their infancy (and they&#8217;re so full of &#8220;features&#8221; that I&#8217;m sure many people, such as myself, don&#8217;t want that I don&#8217;t think they&#8217;ll ever become a permanent replacement) and I&#8217;ve yet to see <i>just<\/i> a standalone recordable DVD solution that you could integrate between your cable connection and TV as you currently can with a VCR.
